Ordering heating oil for the first time can be confusing to someone who has previously used on-grid heating or moving into their very first home. If you are new to heating oil there is no need to worry, we work hard to make the transition as stress-free as possible.
Slightly different to electricity or gas, heating oil is off-grid. This means that you won’t have an unlimited supply and will be required to arrange deliveries in order to keep your tank full and your home warm.
CHECK LABEL ON BOILER
The first thing you need to check is what fuel is required to power your boiler. The label located on your boiler will inform you of what fuel it takes. It will most likely be heating oil/kerosene however older systems can run on red diesel.
SIZE OF TANK
You will be able to find out the capacity and size of your heating oil tank by looking at the product label, often located on the front or side of the tank. The label will be found on all modern oil tanks, and it states the approximate capacity of the tank.
MONITOR OIL LEVELS
To know how much oil you need to order you will have to check the levels of your tank.
You may have a tank oil gauge that allows you to check the levels of your tank from your home - if not you will need to do the old trusted method of using a dipstick. Simply lower the stick into the tank and check where the fuel line stops/marks on the stick.

HOW CAN I AVOID RUNNING OUT?
Unlike gas or electricity, heating oil is off the grid. This means you will have to continually monitor your fuel levels and arrange deliveries to ensure your home is heated.
Our remote monitoring system is the easiest way to manage your home heating oil use. This allows us to check the levels of your tank from our office. We will receive an alert when you fall below 25%, a delivery will then be arranged to fill your tank at full capacity. With over 600 customers already using our service you won’t be disappointed.
